Project Focus
The research project involves expanding existing datasets on sparrow species like golden-crowned sparrows, dark-eyed juncos, spotted towhees, and American robins that inhabit urban parks and backyards during the non-breeding season. You’ll be responsible for data collection, analysis, and contributing to the development of new knowledge in this field.
Who Can Apply?
- Highly motivated and self-directed PhD candidate with a strong background in ecology.
- Proficiency in handling, banding, and aging passerine birds (obtaining a bird banding sub-permit within the first year is expected).
- Experience and comfort with fieldwork in urban environments, including working and living in metro Vancouver during winter months.
- Eagerness to collaborate with the public in their yards and other public areas.
- Solid foundation in GIS, R software, and bird identification (sight and sound).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to manage and lead field crews.
