World Bank Graduate Scholarships 2024-2026. The World Bank Group (WBG), in collaboration with the Japanese Government, offers the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) for students from developing countries. This fully funded scholarship is a great opportunity for students to pursue their master’s degrees in various development-related fields at 52 participating master’s programs across 27 universities in the U.S., Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Japan.

  • Application Deadline:
    • First application round: January 15 – February 29, 2024
    • Second application round: March 25 – May 24, 2024
  • Awarding Organization: World Bank Group and the Japanese Government
  • Result Announcement:
    • First round: End of March 2024
    • Second round: End of June 2024
  • Targeted Regions: Developing countries and Japan
  • Fields of Study: Development-related fields including economic policy management, tax policy, and infrastructure management

Benefits of World Bank Scholarships

  • $500 travel allowance for each trip
  • Full tuition fee coverage

  • Monthly stipend for living expenses (varies by host country)

Note: Applicants are responsible for visa costs, family member expenses, extra course fees, language training, travel during studies, resident permit fees, and educational equipment such as computers.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be a national of a developing country that is a World Bank member.
  • Not have dual citizenship of any developed country.
  • Be healthy.
  • Have obtained a university degree at least three years before the application deadline.
  • Have at least three years of working experience in development-related areas.
  • Be employed in a full-time paid position in a development-related role.
  • Applied and obtained an unconditional offer from one of the JJ/WBGSP’s preferred university master’s programs outside the applicant’s home country.
  • Not be World Bank staff or family members of World Bank staff.
    Commit to returning to their home country after completing the program.

Application Procedures

  1. Select Your Program: Choose one or more of the JJ/WBGSP programs.
  2. Prepare Required Documents:
    • CV
    • Proof of employment
    • Certificate of the most advanced university degree earned
    • Two professional recommendations
    • Unconditional letter from one or more of the preferred programs
  3. Submit Application: Apply to the chosen university. If shortlisted, the university will invite you to apply for the JJ/WBGSP scholarship.
